A new chapter for the Huntemannstraße nursery

With the start of the new school year on August 1st, 2026, the Kindertagesstätten- und Beratungs-Verband e.V. (KiB) will take over the running of the facility. In future, the Studierendenwerk will focus on running its three campus nurseries in Emden, Wilhelmshaven and Oldenburg, which are now in much greater demand among student families than the Huntemannstraße nursery, which is based in the Eversten district of Oldenburg.

This change of operator secures the nursery’s future in the long term and, most importantly, ensures that the wonderful team on site will remain in place in its entirety.

A look back

By establishing the nursery in 1986, the Oldenburg Studierendenwerk carried out urgently needed pioneering work: 40 years ago, student parents had virtually no support when it came to looking after their young children. The Studierendenwerk’s nursery began in a building (now demolished) at the junction of Ammerländer Heerstraße and Uhlhornsweg. Ten years later, it moved to the ground floor of the Huntemannstraße hall of residence. Many hundreds of children aged between six months and three years were lovingly supported there on their journey through life.

We are delighted that a new chapter can now begin in the history of this nursery.
